The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.
- The number of violent crime offenses in the City of Columbus was 5,340 in 2009, which is the lowest number since 2000. Columbus witnessed a high of 6,505 violent crimes in 2002.
- The FBI's Uniform Crime Index reported other Franklin County cities had the following numbers of violent crimes in 2008: Whitehall, 171; Reynoldsburg, 73; Westerville, 44; Hilliard, 33; Bexley, 21; Worthington, 20; Gahanna, 18; Dublin, 14.
- Between 2001 and 2009, the number of aggravated assaults in Columbus steadily decreased by 1,061 offenses.
- Robbery offenses increased from 3,026 to 3,849 (21.4%) between 1999 and 2007 before decreasing to 3,395 in 2009.
- Although the trend has remained somewhat stable, reported rape offenses decreased, whereas homicide offenses increased between 1999 and 2009.
