The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.
  • In 2010, Franklin County Children Services completed 7,408 investigations related to child abuse and 4,360 related to child neglect.  Children Services found that just over half (53.9%) of child abuse cases and child neglect cases (57.3%).
  • In 2010, Franklin County Children Services provided in-home services or out-of-home care to 28,645 youth under age 18 in Franklin County, representing an increase of 12.5% since 1996.
  • The number of Franklin County children in protective placement increased from 3,406 in 1996 to 4,982 in 2008. The number of children placed in protective custody dropped by more than 1,000 between 2008 and 2010.
