The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.
- Racial and ethnic diversity is increasing in Franklin County. Between 2000 and 2010, the white population increased by just 1.2%, whereas other racial groups grew at substantially higher rates. The black population increased by 30.5%, the Asian/Pacific Islander population by 38.4%, and the Hispanic/Latino population by 130.9%. The biracial/multiracial population increased during the same period by 39.9%.
- In 2010, 70.1% of the Franklin County population was white and 21.4% was black. Despite strong growth in recent years, the Asian and Hispanic populations represented only 3.9% and 4.8%, respectively, of the total county population in 2010.
- In 2010, 9.6% of the Franklin County residents (111,686 persons) were born outside the United States. Among the county’s foreign-born population, 37.1% were born in Asia, 27.5% were born in Latin America, 24.0% were born in Africa, and 9.9% were born in Europe.
