In 2010 married-couple families with children were 18.3% of all Franklin County households and 15.6% of all Columbus households. Between 2005 and 2010, this type of household decreased in the county (-8.3%) and in the city (-3.8%).
In 2010 householders living alone made up 31.9% of all Franklin County households and 34.9% of all Columbus households.
Between 2005 and 2010, the number of female-headed households with children increased in both Franklin County (4.8%) and Columbus (9.1%). In 2010 this type of household made up 10.3% of all Franklin County households and 12.0% of all Columbus households.
The average household size in Columbus increased to 2.43 in 2010 from a low of 2.27 in 2006 during the six-year period. Franklin County’s average household size stayed the same from 2009 to 2010 (2.47). Average household size in Ohio (2.48 in 2010) and the nation (2.63 in 2010) have also remained relatively constant in recent years.
