The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.

  • The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) reports that employment in the Columbus Downtown/Central City area declined by 4.3% between 2000 and 2005.
  • MORPC’s 2007 Transportation Plan forecasts employment growth of 19.0% in the downtown region from 2005 to 2030.
  • Outside the downtown/central city area, the greatest total employment growth between 2000 and 2005 occurred in the US 23 North, US 33 Northwest, and SR 161 East regions, which all experienced more than 40% growth.
  • Urban growth inside I-270 between 2000 and 2005 added 10,000 jobs, whereas Suburban growth outside
    I-270 added 58,000 jobs. By 2030 the forecast for urban growth indicates 92,000 jobs will be added, whereas suburban growth is expected to add 239,000 more jobs.
