The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data

  • Blacks are disproportionately represented among HIV and AIDS cases diagnosed in 2009. Although 19.3% of Franklin County’s population, 45% of Franklin County residents who are black have recent HIV diagnoses.
  • In Franklin County, black females account for a larger proportion of recent HIV diagnoses than among whites. Black females composed 13% of reported HIV diagnoses in 2009, whereas white females composed 4%.
  • Franklin County AIDS deaths trended upward from 1999 to 2004, dipping slightly until 2006 before rising to the highest three-year average of 42 per year.
