Definitions:
- Free or reduced-price lunch: Children with family incomes below 185% of the federal poverty level are eligible: Children with family incomes below 130% of poverty receive free meals; children with family incomes between 130% and 185% of poverty pay a reduced price for their meals at school. Because most eligible students participate, the number of children receiving free or reduced-price school lunches can indicate the number of low-income school-age children in a county. In 2010, a family of four with an annual income of $22,050 or less was considered to be living in poverty.
